Sub: Book on Dibru-Saikhowa National Park.
“Dibru Saikhowa National Park” a glimpse of paradise in Assam. In the present era of global warming, when the world is facing ever-new threats due to ecological imbalance we need to know about the wealth of flora and fauna we have around us. ‘Incredible Dibru-Saikhowa National Park’ is an initiative taken by the District Administration, Tinsukia to create awareness among the people about the rich treasure of the wild life heritage present in Tinsukia District of Assam. This is a coffee table book.
The book is a pictorial journey through one of India’s least known wildlife destinations, enriched by written accounts of different aspects of this unique Biosphere Reserve nestled in the Assam Valley. The book covers not only astounding diversity of flora & fauna of the park but also touches on its history, geography, anthropology, economics, management and legal rights of the people who are living inside the park.
Dibru Saikhowa was notified as Reserve Forest in the year 1890 but glories of this wonderful area were overlooked in the past. It was only in 1986 that Dibru Saikhowa was declared Wild Life Sanctuary and in 1997 & 1999 it was upgraded to Biosphere Reserve & National Park respectively.
The Dibru Saikhowa eco system boasts an impressive floral and faunal diversity. It is inhabited by 36 species of Mammals, 502 species of birds, 104 species of fishes, 43 species of reptiles, 105 species of butterflies and 680 species of plants, Many of the species are rare & endangered.
We hope that through this book, the extra ordinary diversity of Dibru Saikhowa National Park’s flora & fauna, will be better known to the wider world, encourage eco-tourists to visit the Park and also generate interest among the nature lovers to boost the conservation of the park for all time to come.
